Canada will officially make its Eurovision Song Contest debut in 2027, marking one of the biggest participation announcements in recent contest history.
The European Broadcasting Union and CBC/Radio-Canada have confirmed that Canada will compete in the 2027 contest, which is set to take place in Bulgaria. Canada becomes the first new country to join Eurovision since Australia’s debut, adding a major new chapter to the competition’s international story.
CBC/Radio-Canada’s full EBU membership has opened the door for Canada to take part as a competing nation. The broadcaster is expected to reveal further details later this year, including how the country’s first Eurovision artist and song will be selected.
Canada’s arrival is expected to bring major excitement to the contest. The country has a strong music industry, a diverse range of artists, and a growing Eurovision fanbase. Canadian viewers have also shown strong interest in Eurovision through voting, streaming and travelling to attend the contest in person.
Although Canada has never competed as a nation before, the country already has links to Eurovision history. Canadian artists have appeared at the contest for other countries in the past, most famously Céline Dion, who won Eurovision 1988 for Switzerland.
With Canada now officially joining the Eurovision family, attention turns to who will become the country’s first representative. The debut will be closely watched by fans across Europe, Canada and beyond as Eurovision 2027 prepares for a historic edition.
