Canada's Eurovision journey has taken another major step forward, with fresh details emerging about what could happen if the country makes history in the competition.

Following Canada's official confirmation for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, Eurovision Director Martin Green has confirmed that Canada would be able to host the contest if it wins, unlike Australia's original participation agreement, which required hosting to take place in Europe should Australia win.

Martin Green's comments confirm that, as a full member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), Canada would have the same hosting rights as any other participating nation.

The announcement has fuelled excitement among Eurovision fans, with many already imagining what a Canadian-hosted contest could look like. Cities such as Toronto, Montréal and Vancouver are expected to be among the names discussed if Canada were ever to earn the right to stage the event.

National Final to Select Canada's First Eurovision Artist

Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has confirmed that Canada's first Eurovision representative will be chosen through a national final.

Rather than selecting an artist internally, Canadian viewers will have the opportunity to choose who will make history as the country's debut Eurovision act. A televised national selection is expected to showcase artists from across Canada, giving audiences their first chance to vote for their Eurovision representative.

While further details—including the format, participating artists and dates—are expected to be announced in the coming months, the decision signals Canada's commitment to building a long-term presence in the Eurovision Song Contest.

A Historic Debut

Canada will become the first new participating country since Australia joined the contest in 2015, following CBC/Radio-Canada's admission as a full EBU member. The country's debut has already generated enormous interest, with Eurovision enjoying a growing fanbase across Canada for many years.

With confirmation that Canada could one day host the contest, and a national final set to launch the country's Eurovision era, excitement is continuing to build ahead of its highly anticipated debut in Bulgaria 2027.
